Since Northstar is a self-contained resort the party quickly fades after après-ski is over. But this is good news for those looking to take advantage of their time on the slopes, as it takes away the temptation to stay out all hours of the night. But if you’re willing to travel a little bit night hawks can still find plenty of late night entertainment with downtown Truckee just six miles away.
While you won’t really find dance clubs and a raging bar scene in Truckee, at least one trip to the historic downtown area is well worth it. Truckee offers plenty of tavern-esque bars and live music venues that will please anyone looking for an enjoyable evening. Moody’s Bistro Bar and Beats, on Bridge Street just over the Truckee River, is a popular local restaurant which turns into a lively bar and music hotspot later in the night. If you’re a sports fan and in search of a bar with plenty of beers on tap, then you’ll want to stop in at Blue Coyote Bar and Grill on Palisades Drive, off of Brockway Road. Blue Coyote has plenty of flat-screen TVs, ensuring you can see the game from any seat in the house.
When the lifts close down, Northstar has a handful of great après-ski spots to choose from, and Chocolate Bar should be at the top of your list, especially if you like chocolate. You’ll find great wine, spirits and of course chocolate cocktail creations. If you’re craving a post-ski snack with a lively scene, then you’ll want to head to Mikuni Sushi. They offer some specials on sushi and appetizers starting at $5, and also offer all their signature cocktails for $8 during happy hour. And for a more traditional, casual après scene, Rubicon Pizza Company is where it’s at. This pizza joint offers interesting signature pies and pleasing variety of draft and bottled beer. On the weekends Rubicon is also a great spot to see live music.
